TROX will play its part in the construction of the "Ciudad de la justicia" in Barcelona, supplying some 11,000 active chilled beams and the same number of volume flow limiters. The decision to award the contract to TROX was taken on the principle that only high quality materials and systems were to be used. Beyond this, value for money, energy efficiency and high levels of comfort were the criteria that led to TROX being selected as a partner. TROX GmbH and TROX España, S.A. are working closely together on this project.

TROX Type DID600B active chilled beams are being used here with a centralised air-water system. They combine the air flow characteristics of ceiling diffusers with the energy benefits of load dissipation using water. The ducted primary air flow required for fresh air supply to the beam is discharged through nozzles into a mixing zone. The induced air is drawn from the room through a heat exchanger and into the mixing zone where it combines with the primary air and the total is discharged into the room via slots.

TROX will also be supplying 11,000 Type VFL volume flow limiters for installation upstream of the active chilled beams , which are used both for heating and for cooling. These units are responsible for the balancing and adjustment of the primary air flows, previously a time consuming and costly exercise, and as they are so easy to set up working time on site is significantly reduced.

The "Ciudad de la justicia" will be the largest site in Europe devoted to justice. Eight buildings are under construction on a total site area of 213,054 m² to accommodate the premises currently distributed between the neighbouring cities of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona. The site will serve both civil and criminal justice accommodating forensic science services, a court building, state prosecutor’s department and register office, along with other buildings for offices and sheltered housing. The complex being built by the regional government of Catalonia is expected to cost about a billion euros.
